The Vale Scottish Dancers
at Eastwell Village Hall Eastwell, Melton Mowbray LE14 4EH
Thanks to Tony Milne of Edge Reels (C) Roddy Martine & Andrew Campbell
We were pleased to see 3 of our new members this week and they are all making amazing progress. Using dances from the Leicester RSCDS Social Dance (Sat. 3rd Oct) programme, we started with The Lass of Richmond Hill, a steady reel with Corner Chains. Then we spent time on Seton’s Ceilidh Band as the first 32 bars are quite straightforward - cross, cast, wiggle & reel, repeat - but the next 16 bars always catch people out. It was a bit ragged but it wasn’t always the least experienced who were making the mistakes! Kinfauns Castle is a 5-couple strathspey which finishes with two half diamond poussettes so we demonstrated the half poussette and then partnered up to include all our beginners. Gaelforce Wind has Set & Link for 2 couples and a Men’s Chain so two more formations were introduced by dancing that. The Dream Catcher is actually not a difficult dance to help a beginner through and, as a complete dance once through, gives a sense of achievement by the end. The 5-couple Roy Goldring dance, Miss Johnstone of Ardrossan, was a good dance to finish with as half of it is reels of 3 which we have practised quite a lot.
