The Vale Scottish Dancers

Thanks to Tony Milne of Edge Reels (C) Roddy Martine & Andrew Campbell
It was very pleasing to see Anna at class again, following our demonstration on Sunday at the Old Brickyard Tea Garden. We started the class with The Jubilee Jig, as we are aiming to practise some of the dances from the Market Harborough programme for Saturday 26th September. Following on from last week’s taster session when we used Rights & Lefts & Hands Across, we introduced reflection reels by dancing Maxwell’s Rant immediately followed by the 5-couple Roy Goldring dance, Miss Johnstone of Ardrossan. Then, for our more experienced dancers, we danced The Duchess Tree, as a 4x32 strathspey. Ecclefechan Feline (not a dance name to try without concentrating!) combines the reflection reels with Hands Across, and The Reel of The Royal Scots is a gentle introduction to ‘corners’. One of our demonstration dances on Sunday was The Dream Catcher, which is actually not a difficult dance to help a beginner through. Peat Fire Flame is a dance for more experienced dancers only. Again from Sunday’s demonstration set, we finished the evening with The Elephant’s Stampede as Anna was keen try it, having not seen it on Sunday - a rash request? Not at all, as she Schiehallioned like a pro.
